Raspberry Smoothie/shake

I decided to play around with ingredients in making a protein shake without using protein powder. I have nothing against protein powder, naturally, but I am getting tired of the ones I have. Unfortunately, I don’t have any pictures but it turned out to be a rather pretty shade of pink. Here’s what I did.

  • 1 cup Hood Calorie Countdown Milk – 8g of protein 3g of carbs
  • 1/2 cup Breakstone Cottage Cheese , 2% milkfat – 11g of protein 6g of carbs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 package sugar free raspberry jello – negligible protein, and carbs

I am not watching my calories TOO closely right now as I get so few during a day. My main concern is keeping my carbs below 50. I did not count net carbs in the above, just the total.

I mixed together the milk and cottage cheese with my immersion blender until the cottage cheese was no longer lumpy. Then, I added in the vanilla and the sugar free jello. The end result was quite tasty and a small departure on what I’ve been drinking. 19 grams of protein is respectable as most of my protein powders have around 20 per serving. This one is a definite ‘do again’ and I’ll be doing more experimenting with ingredients.
