Why I Write

I got tagged to do this post. I won’t be tagging others, like the instructions say, because anybody I would tag right now has either already been tagged or already written their post, so I’m breaking the rules a little bit. As if that should shock anybody.

Our mission: Ladies please tell us in a post, Why You Write? Please also tag 5 others and offer them 3 pearls of wisdom for other writers/bloggers.

In a nutshell: I write because I have something to say. Even though I blog, I’m not really writing for anybody else. Yes, I hope people read what I write, but I’m not writing FOR the audience, if that makes sense. I write what I feel, not what I think will be trendy or popular. This is all me on my blog. I also write because I feel if my story reaches even one person and helps them, then it is all worth it.

Each of us has our own journey. There is no cookie cutter recovery from weight loss surgery and the cycles of addiction, over eating, emotional eating, or whatever it was that made us fat to begin with. That said, if not for the many bloggers out there, I might have felt so very alone in this journey. So many of you have touched me with your stories, you’ve made me laugh, you’ve also made me cry. You’ve also made me feel normal. It’s something I want to share with others on this journey.

I also write to hold myself accountable. I’m not accountable to anybody else in this world but myself. Putting some of this out where the whole world can see it helps keep me honest with myself. It also lets me see how much I’ve grown or changed as I go back and read my older posts. It’s more open than journaling because it lays it all out there for the world to see.

My three pearls of ‘wisdom’ (not sure how wise they really are) would be:

  • Whatever you write, write what you know and/or are passionate about. Believe me, your audience will know if you’re just BSing your way through your blog. Plus, you’ll give up if it’s not something you are passionate about or truly believe in.
  • BE YOURSELF – I can’t stress this enough. Don’t try to be something you aren’t. Let your personality shine through. The best blogs have writers you can identify with, that feel like real people on the other side of the screen. Stick with your strengths. If you aren’t funny don’t try to BE funny. Just be you.
  • Don’t try to write what you think might be trendy or popular. This kind of goes along with the first pearl of wisdom, but I feel it’s important. Unless whatever is trendy at that moment is something you are also passionate about, of course.

Tolerance

I’m practicing my tolerance today. My tolerance level is really low. Every little thing is getting on my nerves, making me want to snap at people. I’m trying not to do that, so practicing. Breathe in. Breathe out. Patience.

It ain’t always easy, let me tell ya.

Stupidity abounds on the interwebz. Stupidity and ignorance and sometimes just downright hate. But I’m trying to be tolerant! I really am trying.

Now if you guys need me, I’ll be over in the corner meditating.

Decisions, Decisions

I made the decision tonight to go back to college. I’ve been batting it around for awhile now but I finally decided to do it. I want to be a nutritionist and I really want to work with bariatric patients. Being a bariatric patient myself and hearing stories from other bariatric patients about their horror stories with their nutritionists, many of which have no idea either what it’s like or any idea of the sometimes special needs of bariatric patients, really inspired me. The hubby is supportive of this idea. Now I have plenty of time to secure financing (go go federal student loans) and get all my ducks in a row for next semester since this one is just starting. I’m really excited, though, and just a little nervous.

Just a quick check in

I passed my two month ‘surgiversary’ on the 18th. I’m working on a more in depth post about that, how I’m doing, etc. I’m also going through all my old cookbooks (I have a ton of cookbooks), looking for recipes I can alter and make more WLS friendly. I’ll definitely be updating with how my experimentation goes. The first newsletter went out the other day, I hope everybody enjoyed it. I included a recipe I’ll be posting up here over the next few days, too.

So, anyway, how are all of YOU doing?
